PH253: Homework 3 is out

Here you go. I'm sure you've been eagerly awaiting it ...

  1. On our test(s), would we be expected to derive formula(s)?
    Also, are there alternative books(besides the two mentioned on the syllabus) that we can use to break down the subject?

  2. No derivations on tests, you will be given all of the basic formulas you need. You will have to combine formulas, and problems will have more than one step, but no derivations.

    I'll try to come up with a list of suggested additional references this evening. Offhand, the Feynman lectures are very good, and you might also look at the second volume of Serway that includes modern physics as well as the text by Krane titled "Modern Physics."

  4. Sections 2.2 and 2.3. Particularly the sections about the photoelectric effect and Compton scattering.
